Picking your wedding suppliers can be a really daunting task and choosing the right florist is arguably up there as one of the most important. Flowers have the power to evoke emotions, set the tone and enhance the beauty of your day so here’s a guide on picking the right florist for your wedding;
1. Define your style: before you start searching for a florist take some time to envision your wedding theme. Are you drawn to lush, romantic flowers or minimalist arrangements? Consider your colour palette, venue and overall aesthetic.
2. Research: have a look online, see what other couples have chosen for their flowers for that venue. You can find inspiration everywhere! From bridal magazines to social media such as Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest. Collate some images together to show your vision to your florist.
3. Find your florist! Start your search by asking for recommendations from friends or family. Have a look online to see which suppliers other couples have used at that venue. You can also use directories such as Yorkshire Brides to find recommended suppliers.
4. Budget: before reaching out to a florist, consider your budget. A good florist will suggest a few ways of reusing your florals to maximise your budget. For example instead of bud vases, why not pool your budget and go for something with a big impact such as a floral meadow. These can be moved around the venue after the ceremony to get the most out of your flowers. Some florists will also charge a minimum spend during the more popular wedding months.
5. Consultation: once you’ve found some florists that fit the style you’re looking for, schedule some consultations in. Use your inspirations photos to communicate the vision you have for your big day. It’s helpful for us to know your colour scheme, wedding dress style, colour of the suits/bridesmaid dresses in order to develop a cohesive design.
6. Your wedding florist plays a significant role in bringing your vision to life, so it's essential to work with someone you trust and feel comfortable with. Choose a florist who not only understands your vision but also shares your enthusiasm for creating something truly magical.
In order to book your suppliers they will usually require a deposit, sometimes this is a set amount or can also be a % of your floral budget. The rest of the balance is then due a few weeks before the wedding.
